One of the things I miss most about this industry is the culture of in-person events. The VoIP, Asterisk and IP telecommunications world in general has a tradition of conferences and congresses that, although disrupted in 2020, has been recovering strength year after year. 2026 is no exception and the calendar is already quite packed. If you work with PBXs, IP telephony, WebRTC or simply like to keep up with what’s going on in the sector, this list is going to come in very handy.
I’ve compiled all the events I could verify for 2026, with links to their official websites and confirmed dates. Some events I initially mentioned have been left out because they don’t have an active website or haven’t confirmed a date yet: that’s the difference between a real event and one that just “sounds good.”
January – February 2026
FOSDEM 2026 — Brussels, Belgium (January 31 and February 1)
The great classic of European free software. FOSDEM 2026 is not a VoIP-exclusive event, but its Real-Time Communications (RTC) devroom is one of the most closely followed at the congress. This is where Asterisk, Kamailio, FreeSWITCH, Jitsi and company developers get together to share the work of the last year. Free admission, no registration required, at the Université Libre de Bruxelles as always. If you couldn’t make it, recordings are available on their website almost in real time.
March 2026
AstriCon 2026 — Pasadena, California, USA (March 5-6)
The official Asterisk conference, organized by Sangoma. AstriCon 2026 arrives earlier than usual this year, co-located with SCALE (Southern California Linux Expo), the largest open source event in North America. Two days at the Pasadena Convention Center with technical sessions, demos and the famous hallway networking where much of what ends up in the project roadmap begins. It’s the event for the Asterisk and FreePBX community par excellence.
Enterprise Connect 2026 — Las Vegas, Nevada, USA (March 10-12)
The reference event for enterprise communications in North America. Enterprise Connect 2026 comes to Las Vegas with UCaaS, Contact Center, conversational AI and the entire enterprise communications ecosystem. Microsoft, Cisco, Zoom, RingCentral and company present their latest news. Very business and integrator-focused, but with good-quality technical workshops.
April – May 2026
OpenSIPS Summit 2026 — Bucharest, Romania (April 28 – May 1)
The OpenSIPS Summit 2026 celebrates its 12th edition in Bucharest, at the InterContinental Athenee Palace Hotel, the hometown of the project’s core team. Four days of tutorials, demos and advanced use cases on one of the most widely deployed open source SIP servers in the world. If you use OpenSIPS in production — or if you’re thinking of doing so at scale — this is the event where you’ll learn the most in the least amount of time.
Kamailio World 2026 — Berlin, Germany (May 7-8)
If Asterisk is the king of open source PBXs, Kamailio is the king of large-scale SIP proxies. Kamailio World 2026 celebrates its 14th edition in Berlin, at the Novotel Berlin Mitte. Two very technical days with teams from the world’s largest operators and communications platforms. If your thing is SIP routing, massive telephony platform architecture, or you simply want to celebrate Kamailio’s 25th anniversary with the community, this is a must-attend event. Registration is already open.
August 2026
ClueCon 2026 — Chicago, Illinois, USA (August 10-14)
The annual FreeSWITCH conference. ClueCon 2026 is AstriCon’s sister event but for the other major open source PBX project: FreeSWITCH. This year with a special focus on Voice AI and new voice flows with LLMs. Less massive than AstriCon, but with a very high technical level and the possibility of talking directly with the project creators. Coder Games on the 10th and conferences from the 11th to the 14th.
A couple of reflections
When verifying the events for this article I had a few surprises. AstriCon arrives in March, much earlier than usual, co-located with SCALE in Pasadena. OpenSIPS has its summit confirmed in Bucharest. Kamailio World is in Berlin in May as always. These three, along with FOSDEM and ClueCon, are the five events with an active website, confirmed dates and open registration.
Other events I mentioned in the first version of this article — WebRTC Global Summit, ITW or DEF CON 34 Las Vegas — don’t have an accessible website or haven’t confirmed their dates for 2026 yet. I’ve removed them until there’s official confirmation. If you know about them and have firsthand information, leave it in the comments.
The second thing that stands out is that AI appears everywhere. ClueCon directly has as its slogan “where the future of Voice AI becomes real.” Kamailio World mentions VoLTE, VoNR, 5G and IoT in its description. Enterprise Connect is all about UCaaS and conversational AI. The industry has it figured out: the next two or three years are about integrating AI into real-time communications, for better and for worse.
And the usual advice: if you can go to any of them in person, go. Much of what ends up in production starts with a conversation in a conference hallway. We’ll keep updating the list as more events are confirmed. If you know of one that’s missing, leave a comment and we’ll add it.
